CAP felt that the applicant should work within the constraints of the existing building. It strongly objected to the use of render.
The case was put to the panel that this was a very good 1980s modern building that had fitted well into the 1870s structure, and that its fenestration and hence stone facing should not be altered.

07/02500/F & 02501/LC – Star Garage, 40A Whiteladies Road

Demolition of existing structures with erection of retail store (Somerfield) at ground floor level with 14 residential units above, over four floors, two covered cycle stores and associated car parking. No decision CAP was unhappy about many aspects of the application, and would like to see it again with a conservation area impact statement and plan.

Demolition of existing shed on the site. No decision

07/02575/F – Bristol Zoo Gardens

Construction of new two storey building comprising education facilities, offices (later to be used as education space), public toilets and external animal enclosures. Existing sheds on the site to be removed (q.v.). Associated external works. Bridge link from new building to existing building. No decision
CAP is generally happy as this building is invisible from the outside. There was some feeling that it was a dull building, given the wild eccentricity of the buildings in the Zoo, and a concern about future inroads into green space.

07/02594/F & 02590/LC – 151 Hotwell Road

Demolition of existing building to provide a mixed use development comprising commercial at the ground floor together with 9 dwellings at first, second, third and fourth floor levels. No decision CAP deplored the destruction of an 18th century building without conservation area consent. The proposal was totally unsympathetic to the area and over-intensive. The front elevation should be retained, and there must be full contextual analysis and reinstatement of the flank wall.

07/02645/LA & 03108/F – Litfield House, 1 Litfield Place

Conversion of the front garden space of Litfield House Medical Centre for the provision of client car-parking. Cancelled

07/02532/F & 02561/LC – 7 Vyvyan Road

Demolition of existing warehouse (Bristol China Company) and construction of 1 work live unit and 1 dwelling house. No decision CAP strongly objected to this application. The design statement was inadequate, there was Insufficient contextual material relating to the conservation area. The proposed building was far too tall and bulky.

07/02693/F – 25 Pembroke Road

Erection of single dwelling house. No decision
CAP would welcome a replacement house on the bomb site. However, current proposals for half a house were not appropriate and CAP recommended the applicant produce new proposals.

07/02822/F & 02823/LC – 1A Ambra Vale
